college recruiting football game planWhat are ideas, activities, and strategies that promote student engagement?

What prompted the project?

Times have changed and our teaching practices must change with them.  Student engagement in the classroom is needed.  We need to help students buy in to what is going on in the classroom.

With increased class sizes, not all students are recognized and included in the classroom community. They are left on the fringes and not all the time participate willingly in classroom activities.  Other students are unfocused and do not seem to work to their potential.  Still others are unsure of why they are in school, for them, school is a time to interact socially. Along with these groups, focused students can be found, students that come to learn and to get good grades. How does a teacher create a cohesive community out of this mixture of backgrounds, ambitions and abilities?

The idea is to create a resource of engagement activities to help teachers create respectful and inclusive classrooms. Classes where all the students feel a part of and all are encouraged to do their best.  Classes that promote friendships and help develop respect among the students and teacher.
